Shungite is one of the oldest minerals of our planet, the geological. Shungite got its name in 1887, when the only large deposits of this carbonaceous rock were discovered in the South Karelian settlement of Shunga for the first time. The fact that the deposits of shungite were found in the oldest layers of the earth’s crust, scientists have build a number of different hypotheses about the appearance of this mysterious mineral on Earth. One such theory is the theory of the cosmic origin of shungite. According to this cosmic hypothesis, shungite could be contained in the fragments of a giant meteorite. According to another version - shungite could be a rock of volcanic origin. In addition, in the scientific world recently strongly strengthened the opinion that shungite most likely formed from sapropel-organic bottom sediments, where under the influence of high temperature and compression and eventually turned into a shungite mineral.
But no matter how contradictory opinions are about the origin of shungite on Earth, the fact remains that in the world of mining and minerals of shungite is incomparable in the variety of therapeutic properties and benefits for the human body. Scientific and clinical studies of the beneficial effects of shungite nowadays actively continue and scientists haven't yet learn all about it, but it is a lot of results showing the amazing physical, chemical, metaphysical and therapeutic properties of this mysterious mineral.
In XVI century the great-grandmother of Peter I tsarina Xenia has been banished by Boris Godunov in Tolvun monastery on coast of Onega Lake. She could not have children, suffered from bareness, but local residents have shown to her a miracle spring owing to which tsarina has recovered. Since then the spring refers as «Tsarina’s spring». The local residents still are treated by water from this spring water.
Shungite has long been used in construction as a finishing material. The interiors of St. Isaac’s and Kazan cathedrals in St. Petersburg, as well as some stations of the Moscow metro are decorated with polished shungite slabs of resin and black color. Shungite materials are very practical-do not collapse and do not fade over time.
And a century later, in 1714 Peter I at the base in Zaonezhye near the village Tolvun, learned from one of his workers who had been healed miraculously in three days from a severe illness, the existence of magical spring, and immediately gave the order to start a thorough research this spring water, flowing from under the black deposits of shungite. Soon, convinced also and personally in the healing properties of shungite source Peter the great began construction in Karelian Zaonezhye of the first Russian resort called “Marcial waters” (First Russian Spa). The name it was given by Peter I in honor of the God of war Mars since the majority of patients they built the resort was initially sick and wounded soldiers of the Russian army. And besides, Peter the Great ordered all his soldiers to carry in military campaigns a piece of shungite (or “slate stone” as it was called at the time). Because of this, the Imperial soldiers on halts could get potable disinfected water, dropping in a pot with water and pieces of this disinfectant mining of the mineral.
Shortly after Peter’s death, the resort “Marcial waters” ceased to exist, and only in the 30-ies of XX century was organized the expedition in Zaonezhye, which Russian scientists had finally confirmed the fact that the springs occurring in areas of shungite deposits, have a truly unique healing properties. In 1960 he began active revival of the Russian resort “Marcial waters” in 50 km from the capital of Karelia - Petrozavodsk city.
A new cornerstone in the knowledge of the unique properties of shungite was the scientific discovery, awarded in the 90-ies of XX century Nobel prize, and consisted in the discovery in the composition of shungite special molecular compounds - fullerenes, defining a wide range of therapeutic effects of this amazing mountain mineral.
The class of the fullerenes (Fig. 3) is usually identified with the C60 molecule, an icosahedral structure consisting of 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons commonly known as the football- or Buckminster-fullerene.
The first fullerene molecule to be discovered, and the family's namesake, buckminsterfullerene (C60), was manufactured in 1985 by Richard Smalley, Robert Curl, James Heath, Sean O'Brien, and Harold Kroto at Rice University. The name was an homage to Buckminster Fuller, whose geodesic domes it resembles. The structure was also identified some five years earlier by Sumio Iijima, from an electron microscope image, where it formed the core of a "bucky onion". Fullerenes have since been found to occur in nature. More recently, fullerenes have been detected in outer space.
Unique useful properties shungite is due to the unusual structure of the molecules included in its composition of carbon. Before the discovery of the composite components of shungite - fullerenes by scientists, it was believed that there are only three forms of crystalline modifications of carbon – diamond, carbine and graphite. But in the study of the molecular composition of shungite found out that there is a fourth, a special form of existence of carbon – fullerene, which is a hollow spherical molecular compound containing 60 to 70 carbon atoms. It is the presence of fullerenes in the composition of shungite and the unusual structure of the carbon matrix is a characteristic feature of the structure of this mineral, which determines a number of its unique physical, chemical and therapeutic properties.
Shungite mineral, which has a rich mineral composition, bactericidal and catalytic properties, has been successfully used in the purification and activation of drinking water for many years. In addition, the water infused with shungite, which is a molecular colloidal solution of hydrated fullerenes, has an anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, antiseptic, analgesic, anti-allergenic and immune stimulating effect on the human body. Thanks to its powerful healing power of shungite water from the XVIIth century and still is widely used in various fields of folk medicine and is used as an effective therapeutic means in the sphere of sanatorium-resort treatment.
Detection of hollow spherical fullerenes in the composition of shungite also opened new prospects for scientists of various pharmacological and biological use of this useful mineral. For example, in our time, the cavity inside the spherical fullerene is used as a vehicle for delivery to the human body various essential for its life substances – hormones, vitamins, antibiotics, fragments of genetic code, etc.
Shungite is a natural composite, the structure of which is an amorphous micro porous quartz frame filled with highly dispersed (about 1 µm) particles of minerals of aluminosilicate series. In the mineral composition of shungite; 70% carbon and 30% other minerals of which 40-50% is silicon oxide, 12-25% - aluminum oxide, the rest of the mineral particles oxides a such – Na, Ca, K, Mg, Fe, S, Ni, Ti, Mo, V, Cu, As, Ce, W, etc.).
Different products from shungite such a plates, disks, pyramids, murals, jewelry that contribute to the neutralization of harmful electromagnetic radiation from household appliances and reduce the adverse effects on the human body, included geopathic stressed zones (distorted or disrupted electromagnetic field of the Earth (Schumann Resonance)
Chemical resistance, high density, strength and calorific value, as well as electrical conductivity and unique ability to shield high-frequency electromagnetic radiation characterize properties of shungite. Due to these properties shungite finds application in metallurgy (substitute of coke and quartzite), in agriculture (as a part of fertilizers, feed additives, veterinary medicines) in production of radio-shielding and electrically conductive building materials, production of paints, rubber, etc. Due to the high absorption, catalysis and bactericidal capacity, shungite is also used in the production of activator filters for complex purification of drinking water, used for disinfection of water in wells and swimming pools, used for purification of domestic and industrial wastewater from pollution.
Shungite is an excellent and almost universal natural adsorbent is able to hold on its surface more than 94% of all kinds of harmful impurities contained in us daily intake of tap water.
Molecular compounds of fullerene in interaction with water play the role of a kind of catalysts that accelerate the decontamination and destruction of harmful organic compounds such a phenols, resins, acids, acetone, alcohols, humic substances, gases, etc. contained in water.
In addition, due to the high sorption and catalytic activity, shungite is able to precipitate on its surface as well other water pollutants that can significantly damage our health such a heavy metal salts, radionuclides, chlorine compounds, phosphorus, nitrogen (nitrates and nitrites), petroleum products, pesticides.
On the effectiveness of filtration of water from dioxins and organochlorine compounds shungite is superior to the famous activated charcoal 30 times. The quality of water purification from petroleum products shungite is also not inferior to the filter of activated carbon. As a result of interaction with water shungite gives it not only transparency and purity, but also helps to neutralize any peculiar smell inherent to it or unpleasant taste.
It should be noted that in the interaction of shungite with water becomes a powerful antioxidant properties. Scientists have long been known that produced artificially fullerenes are strong and long acting antioxidants, which is why on their basis was created many medicines to treat diseases in which lack of effective standard treatment like flu, asthma, atherosclerosis, infertility, ulcers, burns, etc. Turning into the water of shungite fullerenes also have a pronounced and rather long lasting antioxidant activity superior to vitamins C and E and is able to greatly reduce in the body the concentration of free radicals – the damaging molecules special, often causing genetic disorders, cancer diseases, inflammation and premature aging, has many other medicinal properties (anti-inflammatory, anti allergic, analgesic and immune stimulatory properties). Diseases of the digestive system, shungite water helps to eliminate heartburn, flatulence, normalization of the chair, and is very effective in the complex treatment of gastritis, colitis, enteritis, diseases of the gallbladder, liver and pancreas (including cholecystitis, pancreatitis and cholelithiasis).
Diseases of the cardiovascular system: arterial hypertension, atherosclerosis, angina pectoris, vegeto-vascular dystonia, varicose veins, and diabetic angiopathy)
Inflammatory and allergic skin diseases (allergic dermatitis, neurodermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, fungal skin diseases, boils, herpes), as well as the treatment of traumatic skin lesions for burns, cuts, abrasions, bedsores, calluses. For the treatment of dermatological diseases and rapid healing of skin lesions, the most effective combination of internal uses of shungite water with its external use shungite baths and patch compresses.
Diseases of the joints and spine like osteochondrosis, radiculitis, arthritis, arthrosis, etc. Improving blood circulation and nutrition of tissues in the region of the diseased joint, significantly reduced pain, increased mobility of the joints.
Diseases of the respiratory system: oral cavity and throat.
Shungite is known for its incredible healing and protection properties. I like to think of Shungite as the stone of transformation, because it is the mineral of superpowers, the mineral of alchemy, and due to its amazing properties, it is unlike any other mineral:
These same molecular compounds, passing from shungite to water, also contribute to the improvement of the nervous system, increasing the resistance of the human body to stress and high physical activity.
Assists in evolving spiritually, restores emotional balance. Shields the wearer from negative energies of all kinds, including psychic protection.
Provides healing on all levels: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
Grounds energies to the earth and clears and balances aura and chakras.
In my conclusion about shungite does we have the benefits or not from it. I see it more or less very simple. We know that we have benefits of carbon use in water purification for human and animal health, including in environmental use. In addition in shungite we don’t have only carbon but also other dozen mineral elements with it, as we are aware now. In my research about the fullerene in various scientific or just documented researches, now, I can confirm my doubts about fullerene existence in large quantities in shungite. I’m been wondering if shungite has fullerene structure as mineral crystallization than how it would look as the single crystal, including that we have not only carbon there but also other minerals attached ends of carbon clusters. Electron microscopy does not show in nano powder that shungite has fullerene structures rather cluster of different carbon bonds, similar as graphene in layers or triangle bond shapes similar as diamonds have. So there is a mixture of little bit of everything. Test where made with the water also to see does the water helps to structuring fullerene structure carbons bonds during immersion into water. Unfortunately there is very little chance that it does and if it does the right conditions are needed and not in large quantities then. So my view of shungite benefits for health and environment are very simple that the carbon and other minerals are donating their electrons can make impact on bad bacteria’s that why we cannot prove that it always works for everything. And carbon can help deliver these minerals as the same way a fullerene carbon are designed to be. I assume we will never prove it, because not all shungite minerals are the same with same structures and mineral contents, including can contain some radioactive elements but not harmful as it is in very tiny quantities. There is no magic wand for everything! So if it can beneficial than for certain time and period. Everything needs to be in balance in nature into us and around us.
Microscopy video of shungite under 600X zooms after 2,5μm filtration and 1h/4000rpm centrifuge. Obviously we can’t see smallest particles in 600x zoom microscope, like shapes and atomic bond structures. It would require more sophisticated microcopy with X-rays. To analyze what we can see in this video of shungite in water are bad or good would need an expert, including spectrometry tests, as we see that solution is very busy with creatures. Who knows maybe some century old creatures are released into water.
